Basic language is English.

In the main and all non-linguistic namespaces, source text is created in English. Its name should also be in English.

In each linguistic namespace, source text is created in the language corresponding to that namespace.

Each page of the site has its own name. The full page name has the following structure:

Namespace:PageName

The main namespace has no name. Pages created in the main namespace have no prefix.

For example, the "Discussion rules" page is in the main namespace. And the "Project:Sandbox" page is in the Project namespace.

Each page can have subpages. The full name of the subpage is obtained by adding a slash and the subpage name:

ParentPageName/SubpageName

Namespaces intended for creating texts in other languages are linguistic. The name of each linguistic namespace is the system language code, starting with a capital letter. For example, Fr:, De:, Ru:. Additionally, you can read About languages in MediaWiki and Language codes.

Pages in any namespace can have translations into other languages, which are subpages of the source page. The subpage name is the language code.

For example, in the main namespace:

  • Source page - English
  • Source page/fr - translation of "Source page" in French
  • Source page/de - translation of "Source page" in German

For example, in the namespace Fr::

  • Fr:Source page Fr - French
  • Fr:Source page Fr/de - translation of "Source page Fr" in German
  • Fr:Source page Fr/en - translation of "Source page Fr" in English
